After being refused service by a driver because of her girth, Detroit rapper Dank Demoss filed a lawsuit against Lyft

Dank Demoss, a rapper and influencer from Detroit, is in the news after a Lyft driver allegedly refused to let her into his vehicle because of her girth. On TikTok, the artist, who weighs 489 pounds (about 221.8 kg), posted a video of the driver denying her service, saying his car was too tiny for her.

Demoss repeatedly tells the driver in the widely shared video that she could fit, but he insists that she reserve a bigger car and uses the car’s tires as an excuse to refuse her service. Demoss filed a lawsuit against Lyft after the event, alleging that the company’s rejection of service based on her weight constituted discrimination.

“I can fit in this car,” she said, but the driver, who was only named as Abraham, cancelled her ride and promised not to charge her. Demoss continues to pursue a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Lyft, even after the company issued an apology for the driver’s actions.

On social media, the video generated a lot of debate. Some individuals supported Demoss, claiming that the company’s policies should be clarified to prevent prejudice. However, several defended the driver, saying he had the right to decline service. One user said on X, “So huge she got out of breath talking and trying to ruin this driver’s life.” Another said, “The driver is right,” referring to the driver’s freedom to decline service if it makes them uncomfortable.

“If I stand for something, I’ll fall for anything,” Demoss wrote in an Instagram reaction, thanking her community and legal team for their support. defending my people, my neighbourhood, and changing the world—not just for myself, but for everyone.”
