Following a chest ailment, Queen Camilla’s health has significantly improved
The 77-year-old queen claims the virus is “[hanging] on for a little bit,” despite the palace’s earlier statement that she was recuperating from the chest infection that required her to take a break in early November.
The queen consort hosted the famous Booker Prize ceremony on November 12 after missing a number of events due to her sickness, but she had to depart before the winner was revealed. King Charles will now have to walk the red carpet alone as her majesty withdraws from the Gladiator II Royal Film Performance.
The monarch started his cancer treatment when Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, returned from their lengthy tour to Australia and Samoa, and the queen was confined to bed while battling an illness that left her with a chest infection.
Although she had to miss a lot of events due to her sickness, the palace anticipated that she would resume her public engagements over the weekend of Remembrance Day. According to a statement released by the palace on November 5th, “Her Majesty the queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.” “Her Majesty regretfully had to cancel her engagements for this week, but she sincerely hopes to recover in time to attend the Remembrance events this weekend as usual.” On Remembrance Sunday, however, King Charles laid a wreath at the memorial in Whitehall, central London, on behalf of the country, but the queen was not present at the Cenotaph.
At the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on 7 November, Birgitte, the 78-year-old Duchess of Gloucester, took Camilla’s place. Prince William, Kate Middleton, who has been gradually returning to her public duties since her cancer treatment, and other members of the royal family joined the king in honouring Britain’s fallen soldiers.
A royal aide stated that the queen spent several days resting at home per a doctor’s orders, adding, “Although this is a source of great disappointment to the queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.” Originally scheduled for Camilla to co-host, King Charles hosted a banquet for Olympic and Paralympic competitors at Buckingham Palace that same evening. Despite having to leave the event she was hosting before the winner was revealed, Queen Camilla, who claims that “literature has always been my passion,” attended the Booker Prize reception at Clarence House on November 12.
She told one of the finalists before leaving that she “really wanted” to go and that she’s “obviously getting much better.”There is some coughing going on.The queen remarked, “I think I’m on the mend, but these things always take a bit time to get rid of.” “I hope I’m on the mend now, but they just kind of hang on for a little while after you think you’ve got rid of it.” The king and queen are commemorating the 100th anniversary of London’s Film and TV Charity, a foundation that helps underprivileged moviegoers and their families, on November 13.
She is, however, cancelling her attendance at the eagerly awaited Gladiator II premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square theatre in central London since her illness is taking longer than expected, leaving Charles to walk the red carpet alone. The 2024 film is “the 72nd Royal Film Performance delivered by the charity, which marks its 100th anniversary this year,” according to Newsweek.
