Why King Charles denies Prince ceremony for William

King Charles’ decades-long quest to become king eventually ended in 2022 with the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Naturally, nobody was happy with how his first year as king went. In February 2023, Charles was diagnosed with cancer, and he continues to struggle with the therapy to this day. Because of this, Prince William has had to fill in for the monarch multiple times in recent months, which has given him a preview of what will happen when he finally takes the throne.

Regretfully, it’s claimed that this has somewhat altered Charles and William’s connection. And now that he has one thing he doesn’t want to happen again, it seems like the king has had a plan for William all along. It has been one of the most difficult years for the Royal Family in decades.

King Charles was diagnosed with an unidentified type of cancer, according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace on February 5, 2023. Kate Middleton disclosed that she had also received a diagnosis of the illness a month later.

The statement from Buckingham Palace said, “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope that it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.” “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible by his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” the statement read.

Charles’ decision to share his cancer diagnosis could actually have saved lives. As reported by the Associated Press at the time, Cancer Research UK saw a 33% spike in traffic to their website as people searched for information regarding the signs and symptoms of cancer.

Within the Palace walls, “there is a sense of calm before the storm,” a palace source told GB News. “They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate’s health has taken priority, but it’s also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what’s important right now,” the source said. It’s safe to assume that King Charles won’t want to abdicate, and who can blame him? He undoubtedly knows that his son will do fantastically as monarch, but he is likely not going.

However, Charles was installed through a ceremony that was far smaller than the coronation when he was crowned Prince of Wales. The appointment of King Charles as Prince of Wales was a contentious one.

Huw Thomas, a Welsh journalist and the author of Charles: the King and Wales, claims that Charles decided William would not be subjected to the same ceremony because of the unpleasant experience he had when he was sworn in as Prince of Wales. “Charles had “[made] it known throughout the years” that he didn’t “want it to happen again,” he said on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show. “It was known that [Charles] didn’t appreciate the experience, it was known that he felt he was being used in this great political, theatrical moment.”

“It was known within a few months that ‘actually, don’t expect any kind of ceremony – not even a small thing in an office in Cardiff,'” he added, despite the fact that Charles had appointed Prince William Prince of Wales within 24 hours of becoming King. “One doesn’t have to exist.”
